Job Summary: The Assistant Buyer supports the Buyer in creating and executing merchandise strategies that deliver product to meet or exceed financial goals. This includes assortment selection and management, product development and retail pricing strategies. In addition, the Assistant Buyer partners with closely with cross-functional partners including Planning & Allocation, Sourcing, Stores, Marketing and Visual to achieve goals. Responsibilities: Assist buyer and provide a point of view in identifying trends, developing and assorting product that is appropriate for the Cato customer; Possess understanding and utilization of basic retail math to provide insight and actively participate in the OTB process; Assist in analyzing the business and make recommendations on action to take pre-season, in season and post-season; On order management including writing and maintaining purchase orders Sample management and meeting prep; Internal cross-functional collaboration as well as market vendor collaboration. Requirements: Retail experience gained in retail or ecommerce boutique, internship experience, technical program and/or a relevant bachelor’s degree; Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook; Ability to work independently along with cross-functional collaboration; Excellent communication, organizational and problem solving skills; Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and attention to detail; Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills; Creative thinker and personal drive to understand fashion retail The Cato Corporation is an equal opportunity employer.
